Nottingham University Sports Centre
Nottingham University Sports Centre
The new Nottingham University Sports Centre, designed by David Morley Architects, is set to be one of the largest sports complexes in the UK when it is completed. Kier Construction won the £27 million project for what will be known as the David Ross Sports Village after Carphone Warehouse founder David Ross who is part funding its construction.
The new Nottingham University Sports Centre will include a main sports hall with 20 badminton courts measuring some 3,800 square metres, with space that also allows for a wide range of sports to an international level.
In addition to the main sports hall, the complex will include a new dojo with judo and karate flooring, two studios with mirrors for ballet, an archery and fencing room with archery netting, an indoor sprint track with impact wall padding, and changing rooms with bench seating.
The new complex will also have a 200 station health and fitness suite, sports science facilities and office accommodation. Part of the new sports centre will involve incorporating existing sports facilities, which requires demolition of existing buildings and relocation of services. Two adjoining and adaptable 10-court sports halls will be incorporated as well as surrounding buildings, including swimming pool which will remain in use throughout construction of the new centre.
To minimise disruption to current members, a temporary facility will be constructed next to the fitness centre, prior to the closure of the existing sports centre. During the construction phase of this massive project, Billington Structures will provide the steel frame with CHS boom lattice trusses that forms the new open plan sports hall.
