YMCA Milton Keynes

MILTON KEYNES

YMCA, Milton Keynes

A new YMCA facility in Milton Keynes being built by Bowmer and Kirkland will create 199 new apartments, together with accompanying offices, community facilities and commercial units. The new YMCA will transform the lives of young people in the area by offering necessary housing, employment opportunities and support for those who need it the most.

The YMCA is the oldest and largest youth charity in the world. The organisation supports young people, helping them to contribute and thrive within their communities. Billington Structures provided 140 tonnes of structural steel for Bowmer and Kirkland on this project in Milton Keynes.

The new Milton Keynes campus will be a significant upgrade to existing facilities in the area. In addition to meeting rooms and facilities, there is also a nursery, cafe and space for local businesses. The ground floor level will also offer employment and training opportunities for the local community.

The construction of the new YMCA was carried out on a tight deadline which required a highly coordinated approach during the design stage and a hybrid modern method during construction to maximise efficiency. The lower section of the building has a steel frame with the top levels utilising panellised lightweight steel framing, used to support walls and flooring. Billington Structures provided 140 tonnes of structural steel for Bowmer and Kirkland on this project.

This new project received the backing of a number of supporters including Homes England, the South-East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership, The National Lottery Community Fund, MyMK BID, Milton Keynes Council, The Garfield West Foundation, and many other small supporters. All of the new facilities will create a community facility for the people of Milton Keynes and in particular, young people in the area.
