The National Composites Centre was launched under the UK Composites Strategy announced in 2009, with the aim of boosting the development, design and manufacture of high quality composite structures.
The centre is to reside within a flagship 8,500sq m development which will house leading industry researchers and engineers while providing industrial scale manufacturing facilities for prototypes and research concepts.
The building features a complicated multi-elevation roof that makes the most of natural light pouring into the workshop floor of the centre. The building it targeted to hit the BREEAM Excellent environmental rating and the design includes a large array of photovoltaic cells on the roof alongside the glazed roof lights.
