University of Leicester Teaching and Learning Centre

LEICESTER

Opening in autumn 2022, Freemen’s Campus will provide a vibrant community for students, staff and local residents to enjoy and experience.

At the heart of Freemen’s Campus will be a new 9,000m2 Teaching and Learning Centre, with state-of-the-art lecture theatres, inspirational teaching rooms and study areas. Students can also take advantage of a high-tech games area, cinema suite, café and open spaces.

The project is part of a wider £200m regeneration scheme which also includes new student accommodation, the refurbishment of a grade II listed building and the construction of a 500-space multi-storey car park.

The main feature of the project was the 80t mega truss and the cantilevered steel above to form the theatre. The truss was propped and jacked to allow for the the steelwork over the theatre to be completed.

The build also sequence had to be carefully considered to allow for the installation of the precast planks.
