The Brunel Place development is an office development that forms part of the Heart of Slough, a £450m regeneration project. Brunel Place will transform the site next to Slough's train and bus stations, creating more than 30,000 m2 of office space and retail space. It will become an integral commercial hub for the town and will be perfectly located for commuters.
Billington Structures provided the structural steelwork for Brunel Place. The steelwork structure consists of a ten-story office block, complete with underground car park, double-height entrance foyer and roof gardens. 2 Brunel Place has been designed to achieve a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating.
The Heart of Slough project focuses on the creation of a commercial quarter covering an area of 3 hectares. The urban generation project is modelled on others that have proven successful in other parts of the UK. It will consist of a mixed-use development that will add residential and commercial space to the town. It is also expected to include 1,600 new homes in the area.
Other elements of the project include the construction of a new bus station, leisure and retail venues and a cultural centre called The Curve, which will play an educational role for the community. The Curve will consist of a library, arts and performance space, a cafe, and a museum, as well as dedicated learning space and IT facilities. The site of the town's old library will be redeveloped into a hotel.
The redevelopment of Slough is expected to improve local employment and create approximately 4,800 permanent jobs and 500 temporary jobs during the construction phase, with over 1,000 during the development of Brunel Place.
