Job Description

We’re looking for a dependable Shot Blast Operator to operate and maintain shot blasting equipment for cleaning and preparing structural steel components like beams, plates, and columns. Duties include setting up machines, handling steel using cranes or manual methods, inspecting components for quality, and keeping the work area safe and tidy. You’ll work in an industrial environment with dust, noise, and physical tasks such as lifting and standing for extended periods.

The role is full-time, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Thursday from 07:15 to 16:00, and Friday from 07:45 to 14:00, with reasonable overtime required. Full training will be provided, but experience in structural steel or manufacturing is beneficial. Reliability, teamwork, and good communication are essential.

Responsibility

The Shot Blast Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining shot blasting equipment used to clean and prepare structural steel surfaces prior to fabrication, painting, or galvanizing. The role ensures that steel components meet cleanliness and surface preparation standards, contributing to the overall quality and durability of the final products.

  • Set up, operate, and monitor shot blasting machines to clean steel beams, plates, columns, and other structural components
  • Load and unload steel parts using cranes or manual methods in accordance with safety standards
  • Inspect steel components before and after blasting to ensure proper cleaning and surface finish as per specifications
  • Adjust machine settings (e.g., shot flow rate, roller speed) based on steel size, shape, and required finish
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, ensuring all equipment is free of obstructions and hazards
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on blasting equipment, including replacing worn blast media
  • Accurately complete production log
  • Follow safety protocols and always use appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Communicate with supervisors and other team members to coordinate workflow and resolve issues
  • Industrial environment with exposure to dust and noise
  • Requires standing for long periods, bending, lifting, and operating machinery
  • May require overtime depending on production demand

Qualifications/Skills

  • Previous experience in a structural steel or industrial manufacturing environment would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of surface preparation standards
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with heavy machinery operation
  • Experience with overhead crane operation
  • Prior shot blast experience, especially with automated blast systems
  • Understanding of steel surface treatment requirements
  • Communication: Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
  • Reliability: Strong work ethic, punctuality, and dependability
