In 2025 the Billington Group, via the Billington Holdings Charity Foundation, has chosen Cancer Research UK as the company’s Charity of the Year. Employees from across the Billington Group previously chose to support the charity in 2023 and again in 2024, with a number of planned fundraising activities across each year.
Cancer Research UK has a very personal connection to a number of employees because of the invaluable contributions they deliver to local communities. In 2023 Lee Blemings, Sales Co-ordinator, at Hoard-it took part in a charity skydive after Nigel, a member of Lee’s family, was diagnosed with lung cancer. Sadly Nigel lost his battle against cancer and the fundraising skydive was to raise money for the Palliative Care Unit at Pinderfields Hospital to thank the staff for all of their kindness and incredible work.
Since 2019 Billington Structures has held an annual Charity Hog Roast and in 2023 two events were hosted at our production premises in Wombwell, Barnsley and one in Yate, Bristol. The events included a range of attractions including children’s rides, a fundraising raffle with donated prizes, an ice cream van, and a live performance by a local band, which resulted in a great day for everyone.
In 2023 they raised £3,200 from both events, which was donated to Cancer Research UK to support its ongoing fight against cancer. In the run-up to the 2024 summer event, employees raised £4,455 in combination with other charity events.
Last year, the first Billington Cricket Tournament was held in August at the Tickhill Cricket Club in Doncaster. Employees from across the group and various departments came together to show off their cricket skills in a spirited competition. Four enthusiastic teams took to the field and over a lively series of six games. The winners, with final bragging rights, went to the Billington Bashers.
This year employees will be taking part in a number of fundraising activities to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK and continue to help them make a positive difference in the battle to beat cancer.
