King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Academy

King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Academy is a new school being built as part of the Birmingham Lend Lease Partnership. Designed by Birmingham-based Associates Architects, the academy was built on an existing school site and it will include a new three-storey building that will be offer pupils over 11,000 square metres of teaching space.

King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Academy will be home to 1,350 pupils between the ages of 11 and 18, 300 of which will be in the sixth form. The new academy will include an academic block, resources block and there will be a number of facilities that the local community will be able to use out of school hours. These include a library, a theatre with seating for 350, a fitness suite and a full size sports hall with the largest indoor netball court in the area.

Billington Structures worked alongside the main contractor to design and fabricate over 500 tonnes of structural steelwork to this four-storey, beam and column building. The new academy will have specialisms in science and performing arts with spaces to support them, as well as art and music studios, design and technology workshops, a dining hall, large sports hall, learning resource centre and a dedicated sixth form teaching cluster.
