Nottingham City Council and NHS Nottingham have appointed Wilmott Dixon Construction as the main contractor for a new Joint Service Centre (JSC) at St Ann’s hospital in Nottingham. The JSC will combine several different facilities in one building. This will include GP clinical services and healthcare, a library, community centre, housing office, youth support services, SureStart Outreach as well as an onsite pharmacy.
Billington Structures provided the structural steelwork for the JSC, comprising a two storey beam and column-braced frame. The overall design of the building, by CPMG Architects, is focused on inclusivity and making it a welcoming environment.
By providing a space for the community with a number of accessible amenities in one location, it will increase activity in and around the site and create a sense of safety. The open plan encourages visitors to use several facilities during one visit and make the most of the facilities.
Funding for the Joint Service centre was from NHS Nottingham City and a government grant. St Ann’s Library will move from its old location at Robin Hood Chase to the JSC and reopen with new facilities. The JSC will offer a modern, accessible and flexible space with an integrated approach to service delivery for residents in the area.
FPCR were appointed to provide arboreal and environmental services as part of the new development. An ecological assessment was carried out as well as surveys at former buildings to understand the impact on demolition of old buildings and construction of the new site.
