The Gateway is a new project that will provide student accommodation at the University of Lincoln. The 8 storey building with a curved design will have accommodation for 519 students, as well as space on the ground floor for retail businesses and offices. The Gateway will be a mix of 503 bedrooms, 361 studio bedrooms with kitchens and 24 cluster kitchens.
The Gateway is situated close to the city centre and the building’s design and height will make it a distinctive landmark in the city. The buildings ceramic and granite façade, as well as being eight storeys height and nearly 90 metres in length, will make it stand out from any nearby structures. Kier Construction asked Billington Structures to deliver the structural steelwork for the Gateway.
The Gateway’s innovative tiered, curved frontage presented numerous challenges to all those involved in the design, prefabrication and installation of the facade cladding. Every part of the building is being completed to a high specification and the building will also come with solar power which is expected to generate 68 kilowatts of energy. Students will also benefit from a number of other on-site amenities including a laundry suite and high-speed internet.
Kier Construction worked closely with local industries to ensure that as much of the workforce came from local labourers as possible.
