Stallingborough Interchange is a major logistics development at ABP's HELM Park, with 560 tonnes of steelwork by Billington Structures.
Strategically positioned adjacent to the A180 and Humber Link Road, Stallingborough Interchange has been designed to provide high-quality warehouse, manufacturing and logistics space for businesses operating within the manufacturing, ports logistics, energy and engineering sectors. The scheme supports ABP's wider commitment to strengthening the UK's trade infrastructure while driving economic growth and supporting the energy transition across the Humber region.
Billington Structures was responsible for the steel supply, fabrication and erection of more than 560 tonnes of structural steelwork across three portal-framed buildings, creating eight flexible industrial and logistics units complete with integrated two-storey office accommodation.
The development incorporates clear-span structures up to 47 metres wide and 15 metres high, creating flexible industrial accommodation that can be reconfigured to accommodate future tenant expansion and changing operational requirements. The steelwork package also included the installation of metal decking, cold-rolled purlins and rails, precast stair units and the structural steelwork supporting the internal office accommodation, providing a comprehensive solution across all three buildings.
Delivering Stallingborough Interchange required careful coordination between multiple trades while maintaining progress against a demanding programme. Billington developed a carefully phased erection strategy that enabled early access for cladding, groundworks and other contractors while maintaining progress against the steelwork programme. The team also devised a practical solution for a cantilever eaves detail on Units 7 and 8, allowing cladding works to proceed before the final steel installation was completed, minimising additional access requirements and programme disruption. Careful sequencing of the works was also required to accommodate ground beam installations and ensure Billington's activities could be completed before access restrictions created by subsequent construction phases were introduced.
Through close collaboration between Billington's design, fabrication, logistics and site teams, the project was delivered in line with the programme. The successful completion of Stallingborough Interchange demonstrates Billington's ability to deliver complex industrial and logistics projects through effective planning, engineering expertise and strong stakeholder coordination.
