We provided structural steelwork for a new leisure facility in Romford.
The new Romford Leisure Centre, the Sapphire Ice & Leisure, offers a range of activities and facilities, including a gym, swimming pool, dance studios, café and a full-sized ice rink. This venue will also be home for top ice hockey team, the London Raiders. The leisure centre will include an eight-lane competition swimming pool, fitness suite and a 56m x 26m ice rink in the heart of the town centre.
What made this complex even more challenging is that the client required a suspended ice rink structured above the swimming pool, which had to be achieved without the use of internal columns. Temperature and humidity had to be considered and extensive steelwork protection was provided to help future-proof the structure for years to come.
The new development will assist with the cultural regeneration of the area. It will make a real impact on the local community and attract new inward investment.
