The BREEAM Excellent project is the latest phase of development at the out of town site which is helping with the post-pandemic recovery. A number of high profile office projects a currently underway which are transforming Leeds city centre and the surrounding areas.
The project is designed by architects, Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher. The new steel-framed building will provide seven floors of office accommodation with two levels of parking with amenities below. Construction is taking place on a sloping site, so early works included the excavation of earth to create an even plateau for the new structure.
Structural steel was chosen for its speed of construction, as well as its ability to create long span column-free spaces required for a modern office. As well as installation of the steelwork, Billington Structures also installed the precast planks, which weigh up to 4.6 tonnes each. Erection and installation coordination has been a key part of the project and Billington Structures has been instrumental in managing everything.
Sustainability was an important factor in the construction of this building. This included using recycled aluminium in the building’s envelope, up to 50 per cent reduction in the use of concrete for pile foundations and building slabs, and 25 per cent of the British Steel used in the structure is from recycled content.
