Prologis Park

Prologis has finalised a deal with Birmingham based logistics firm, UK Mail, to relocate to the Prologis Park Ryton scheme near Coventry. UK Mail, currently located in Bromford, Birmingham, had its location purchased by the Department for Transport for HS2, the new high-speed rail route that is currently under construction.

In its new location at Ryton, UK Mail has made an agreement with Prologis for a 231,000 square foot office and mail sorting facility that will include a 36,330 square foot head office building. The new mail sorting hub will have the capacity to cope with the continued growth of UK Mail and the new automated sorting equipment will allow them to increase the volume of parcels they handle by a considerable margin.

By working closely with Prologis, UK Mail have designed the new state of the art facility to support the continued growth of the business in the future. The new facilities is aiming to achieve a minimum of BREEAM Very Good accreditation and the best Energy Performance rating possible for such a large building with a CO2 Index rating of A-25 or better.

Billington Structures supplied the structural steelwork to Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd who are the main contractor on the project. We supplied and helped with the construction of the automated hub, which is a single storey warehouse and production unit with a clear height to underside of haunch of 10 metres. Other features of the site include the depot and mail pod, offices on the first floor of the hub, a security lodge and gatehouses. External site work includes hard standings, a car park as well as landscaping and drainage of the site.

The location of Prologis Park in Ryton in the West Midlands is strategically close to the UK motorway network and it has attracted a lot of attention. Other companies that have made plans to move onto the site include Network Rail, Hi Logistics, and Freeman, as well as a 225,000 square foot unit that is currently under construction.
