KILLINGHOLME

Doncaster International Airport, with a price tag of £80 million, is the UK’s newest international airport for 30 years and it has the capacity to serve 2.3 million passengers and 50,000 tonnes of freight per year.

Tubecon constructed the terminal building – comprising of nearly 1,500 tonnes of complex structural steelwork. The structure consisted of four storeys of beam and column construction, with additional complex, tubular, waveform trusses making up the main concourse of the terminal.

Combined with the multitude of curved beams creating a waveform entrance canopy, this project highlighted the manufacturing and construction excellence of Tubecon when it comes to innovative, architecturally lead projects.

This airport structure consisted of normal column and beam construction, but with the addition of architectural, tubular, waveform trusses supporting the roof. The terminal building also contained a series of curved beams, which combined with feature columns provided a curved entrance canopy.
