West Yorkshire Police Headquarters

WAKEFIELD

Interserve has been named as the main contractor for two new divisional West Yorkshire Police Headquarters. The £150m contract will see the construction of two headquarters and custody facilities, with Interserve providing support services for the next 25 years.

The consortium, led by Interserve and in association with Equitix, will design, build, finance and operate the two new headquarters, custody suites and the training facility. The headquarters and the custody facilities will be based in Leeds and Normanton, and the training centre will be in Wakefield. The Leeds station will be built on the former greyhound stadium and it will replace outdated facilities at the Millgarth police station. Billington Structures provided the structural steelwork for both police headquarters which were designed by Jacobs Architects.

The training centre will include firearms training ranges, driver training and public order training facilities. The new buildings will provide a modern and flexible working environment that will include areas to train officers for real life situations.

The existing buildings and police facilities were in need of repair. The new and bespoke buildings and modern facilities will lower the overall costs by replacing the out-of-date headquarters which were not fit for purpose. The new facilities will enable the police to deliver services which are flexible and responsive to the needs of the local people.

At least 85% of subcontracts will be given local companies to help boost the local economy. Young people will also be given an opportunity by Interserve to apprentice on this and other projects and they made a firm commitment to support at least 85 young people across West Yorkshire.

The new West Yorkshire Police Headquarters will provide a modern, flexible working environment with the community at the forefront, as each of the buildings has a community facility.
