The Exhibition Centre Liverpool (ECL), a new £40 million facility on Kings Dock on the Liverpool waterfront, has been awarded to ISG Construction. The new ECL will be adjacent to the existing ACC Liverpool conference and events venue. ECL will be 8,100 square metres with three 2,700 metre halls, together with an integrated hotel, which will be development by the city council. Billington Structures delivered the structural steelwork for the new ECL to ISG construction.
Additional features of the Exhibition Centre Liverpool include an atrium, food outlets, meeting rooms and a business centre. The ECL will increase the existing 7,125 square metres of exhibition space at ACC Liverpool to 15,225 square metres of interlinked event space. The two centre will be directly connected to the existing facilities at ACC Liverpool via a covered link. Once completed it will be Europe’s first purpose-built interconnected arena, convention and exhibition centre.
The Exhibition Centre Liverpool will be owned by Liverpool City Council and managed by ACC Liverpool. In addition to the exhibition centre, the plans include the construction a new 200 bed four or five star hotel. The hotel will play an important role in attracting events to the area and the new larger exhibition centre.
In the first year of operation, the ECL is expected to host at least 50 events and attract 250,000 visitors. The exhibition centre and events will support 1,300 jobs and contribute in the region of £40 million per year to the Merseyside area. The new venue will strengthen Liverpool’s waterfront but also its ability to host large conferences, creating jobs in the supply chain for the exhibition centre.
