Melton 2

NORTH FERRIBY

The Wykeland Group has been awarded a contract for the construction of a £20m three-storey operational support building at Melton West business park, west of Hull, for the Humberside Police Force.

Melton West is one of the Yorkshire’s leading business parks and it already has more than 800,000 square feet of manufacturing, warehouse and office space, with leading companies on site including Kohler Mira, Heron Foods, Needlers, House of Townend and Allam Marine. Work is also planned for a new, £10m Mercedes Benz dealership, to be built beside the A63.

The Melton 2 development provides 107,000 square feet of accommodation for around 535 staff from the Force’s Operational Support Services and is situated next to an existing facility Melton 1, which is home to specialist teams and support staff.

The new Humberside Police building will be sited at a pivotal location for the Force, providing excellent road access to the wider region. In conjunction with the existing centre, Melton 2 will provide tailored facilities for operations and support staff, supporting greater functional efficiency. The proposed scheme also aims to improve the quality of work and training environments for Humberside Police personnel.

The design includes key sustainable features such as energy efficient heating and lighting systems, the use of environmentally-friendly materials and facilities to encourage staff to cycle to and from work.

The new development at Melton will allow Humberside Police to bring together a number of specialist crime investigation functions which deal with serious crime, and provide a new, state of the art force control room. The investment in Melton 2 is part of an investment strategy by Humberside Police to ensure that it provides the best possible service for the public.

The project included a 3 storey beam and column braced frame with metal deck floors, precast concrete stairs and steel escape stairs. Billington Structures provided approximately 600 tonnes of structural steel, including offsite applied intumescent fire protection paint to perimeter steelwork.
