A new four storey building in Stockport on Edward Street will be the new headquarters for Stockport Homes.
A new four storey mixed-use building in Stockport town centre on Edward Street will be the new headquarters for Stockport Homes. The 54,500 square feet building will be home to approximately 400 members of staff and the new headquarters will combine a number of existing services including managing social housing stock, local communities, preventing homelessness and helping to transform lives for local residents.
The new central location of Stockport Homes HW will improve accessibility for customers, maximise joined up working and technology. The building was designed by AEW architects and in addition to office space it comprises a basement car park with 61 spaces, meeting and community rooms and coffee shop that can also be used by local residents.
One of the key logistic challenges on the project was its city centre location, which meant the delivery of materials and on-site subcontract trades had to be carefully arranged.
The façade of the building is primarily constructed from pre-cast concrete panels with the largest weighing upwards of eight tonnes. With enough space to unload one vehicle at a time within the confines of our site boundaries, the construction team meticulously planned installation of the façade. Billington Structures provided over 560 tonnes of structural steel for the frame of the building to the main contractor, Eric Wright Construction.
The construction company were also determined to add value to the local community by providing employment opportunities with a target of 75% local workforce on the project. Apprenticeships were also created for the duration to raise awareness of opportunities in the construction industry.
The new Stockport Homes HQ will provide better facilities for visiting customers and it will bring together staff, helping the business to embrace a modern, efficient and flexible method of working.
