Faculty of Business and Law

BRISTOL

A new Faculty of Business and Law at the University of West England (UWE) is being constructed and the main contract has been awarded to ISG Construction.  The £55 million project is the centrepiece of the university’s multi-million pound investment programme which will transform the campus.

The seven storey, 185,000 square foot building is designed to foster interactions between the university and the wider business community with the goal of delivering benefits to the regional economy. The design includes several large collaborate places to foster this approach where professional organisations, accountants, small business owners and others can mix with staff and students.

The new building is in the centre of the Frenchay campus, adjacent to the student union and it will enable for the relocation and expansion of facilities for students on Business and Law courses.

Construction of the new building involves working in a busy environment in which the team from ISG constructed a concrete frame structure which incorporated large glazed windows to maximise the volume of natural light in the building. Billington Structures were asked to supply the seven storey structural steel frame for the building with an atrium roof and feature stairs.

The new building will boast a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art teaching facilities, including a 300-seat tiered double-height lecture theatre and a further two Harvard-style lecture theatres, as well as two simulated court rooms and a high specification trading room. ISG were keen to engage with staff and students during the construction process and feedback from them has been extremely positive as they look forward to the completion of the new school.
