Billington Structures Secures Steelwork Contract for New High School
Billington Structures is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the structural steelwork contract for the new Wales High School development in South Yorkshire.
The project forms part of the Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme and it represents a major investment in modernising the high school’s existing campus. The school’s current facilities will be comprehensively redeveloped to provide a new, energy-efficient building that is designed to meet net-zero operational standards. Once complete, the new high school will deliver high-quality teaching and learning environments to support future generations of students.
BAM Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the project and completion is scheduled for April 2028. Billington Structures’ scope of works will comprise the fabrication and erection of a three-storey braced structural steel frame, which will form the primary superstructure of the new school building. A steel solution has been selected to support structural efficiency and effective integration with associated building elements.
Fabrication of the steel will be undertaken at Billington’s UK manufacturing facility. The work will be closely coordinated with BAM Construction’s schedule to ensure that progress is maintained and key project milestones are met on time.
Complex education projects require careful planning, clear communication and strict adherence to programme requirements, particularly when work is being carried out that is adjacent to communities. Consideration must be taken in terms of noise pollution and increased traffic, so it is important that the local community are kept informed from an early stage.
Billington Structures has extensive experience in delivering structural steelwork packages across the education and public sectors, working collaboratively with contractors and design teams to ensure safe, efficient and compliant project delivery.
The Wales High School redevelopment further strengthens Billington Structures’ portfolio within the education sector and reflects its continued confidence in our team’s technical capability and delivery expertise.
