Introduction to Katie Dang – our Business Administration Apprentice working on the North London Heat and Power Project

At Billington Structures, we are committed to developing future talent through meaningful apprenticeships, combining hands-on experience with professional growth, while aligning with our commitments to social values.

Our Business Administration Apprentice, Katie Dang, is a great example of this, gaining valuable insights into both office operations and on-site processes. Her journey highlights the important role apprenticeships play in building skills, confidence, and long-term careers in the construction sector.

Introduction to Katie Dang – our Business Administration Apprentice working on the North London Heat and Power Project Billington Structures

Katie Dang – Billington Structures Business Apprentice: “Over the past few months at Billington Structures as a Business Administration Apprentice, I have gained valuable experience in managing administrative tasks, improving my organisational skills, and supporting various business functions. I’ve had the opportunity to handle documentation, assist with scheduling, and learn about day-to-day operations within the company. I have also developed better understanding of how efficient administration can support the office/company. Additionally, throughout the role so far, I have been able to improve my verbal and written communication skills when speaking with other companies or visitors coming to site for site visits/inductions.

Other than the admin responsibilities, I have been given the opportunity to go onto site and learn more about the different areas in structural steelwork. This experience is giving me valuable insight into the practical side of the industry, helping me understand how the office connects to on-site operations. This was a good chance for me to get out of the office and see first hand how their part of the project comes together. I look forward to further developing my skills and contributing as much as I can to the team/company as I make progress in my apprenticeship.”

Andrew James – Billington Structures, Site Project Manager: “Katie joined Billington Structures in November 2024 after successfully applying for our Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship role. This role is the first of its type on Billington Structures sites, and it demonstrates our commitment to the North London Heat and Power Project by introducing local individuals into the construction industry. It also forms part of our commitment to our social value input to the project.

Katie is predominantly engaged in admin duties, from organising steelwork and various deliveries to the site, to quality control documentation, general administration, and assisting the contracts team.

It is imperative that Katie learns the fundamentals of the construction industry. By organising scheduled site days, Katie can learn the ins and outs of the structural steelwork industry and apply her findings to her daily work within the office.

Since joining, Katie has already proven to be a vital member of the contracts team, and I am sure she will continue to thrive within the industry.”
