Billington are proud to have been awarded Star Bakers from Barnsley Hospice for their alternative Bake Off fundraising event in September.
Although it wasn’t technically a baking event, Billington wanted to find a way to raise money for Barnsley Hospice and also give something back to staff at the same time. On 9th September, along with sister companies hoard-it and Shafton Steel, Billington hosted a hog roast event at their site in Wombwell, Barnsley. It also included a bouncy castle, guessing games, a raffle and a pop up bar supplied by local company Acorn Brewery.
The events from the day raised over £1,500 for Barnsley Hospice and we were pleasantly surprised to find out that this donation was the highest raised for the Big Barnsley Bake Off event. As a result, local celebrity Sam Nixon kindly visited the Billington offices to present a certificate for the award.

Sam Silverwood, Barnsley Hospice Assistant Fundraising Manager said:
“We want to say a huge congratulations to Billington Holdings PLC for winning the coveted Star Baker Award and raising such a fantastic amount for Barnsley Hospice. Every pound raised makes a huge difference to our patients and their families and we are thankful to all the staff for getting involved. We are really grateful to Sam Nixon for his support and thrilled to announce that he has agreed to be the face of the campaign in 2017. I would also like to thank the other groups who took part in this year’s Bake Off, we really appreciate the hard work that went into organising your events. We hope Billington, along with the other groups who took part will be an inspiration to others to get involved next year and have fun while raising vital funds for Barnsley Hospice.”
Billington are delighted to have been recognised by Sam Nixon and Barnsley Hospice for our fundraising efforts and we hope to continue our support for the hospice in the future.
