Today Billington Structures joins SteelZero a global initiative by Climate Group of leading companies to speed up the transition to a net zero steel industry. As a SteelZero member we have made a public commitment to procuring, specifying or stocking 100% net zero steel by 2050, and 50% lower carbon steel by 2030.
Steelmaking is currently one of the biggest emitters of CO2 globally, despite the fact that technologies exist for its production to be decarbonised. By harnessing the collective purchasing power and influence of its members, SteelZero sends a strong demand signal to shift global markets and policies towards responsible production and sourcing of steel.
Mark Smith, Chief Executive Officer said “Billington Structures Ltd are pleased to announce that we are now part of a significant global initiative for clean steel and are proud to be a member of #SteelZero.
We are committed to embedding the principles of sustainability into all aspects of our business. This is to ensure work meets the needs of society today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own, #SteelZero will play an important part in this journey.
As a permanent material, steel is fundamental to achieving a circular economy. The steel sector contributes to at least 7% of global emotions, so therefore it is vitally important that we are all on the same journey to decarbonise the steel industry.”
