Billington have been chosen as the steelwork contractors for Better Barnsley’s May Day Green market.
The demolition team at Hague Plant appointed Billington to provide the 124 tonnes of steelwork which will be used to build a podium structure to support the new market building.
Darren Palin, Commercial Specialist at Hague said: “After a comprehensive procurement process we are extremely pleased to have appointed Billington Structures as the steelwork specialist. They provided the most cost effective solution to suit the project needs and this coupled with being a local contractor made them our natural choice.”
The Better Barnsley development requires the relocation of part of the existing market whilst demolition works are carried out on the current multi-storey car park. May Day Green market will have a variety of stall types and sizes, including a café and public toilets, and will be situated over the existing underground servicing area of the former Central Offices site.
On securing this contract, Mark Smith (Managing Director of Billington) said: “Billington Structures are delighted to be involved with Hague and Barnsley Council, providing the podium structure for the May Day Green Market, and look forward to continuing that support to realise the Better Barnsley Town Centre Redevelopment.”
