Exeter Logistics Park

EXETER

A purpose-built distribution unit is being constructed at Exeter Logistics Park for an international online retailer. The 90,000 unit and attached offices has the potential to create up to 151 new jobs. Planning permission was approved by East Devon District Council for construction of the two large warehouses.

Billington Structures supplied structural steel for this project, which involved the design and build of a new twin-span propped portal frame building with spliced cranked rafters together with the design and build of steel stairs.

The new project will include a 55,000 square foot parcel distribution service centre with an integral office space. The modern and bespoke facility has been designed to increase operational efficiency for the major online retail business.

Environmental concerns are being taken into consideration during construction and the goal is to minimise the number of vehicles required on site to reduce the carbon footprint. The building will have a BREEAM very good environmental rating and will include a number of sustainability features. These include PV solar panels, a sustainable urban drainage system and a green roof in office areas. There will be 120 carp parking spaces and 93 van loading bays which will include electric vehicle charging points. The infrastructure is being put in place for the facility to go fully electric in the future.

The second smaller unit will be approximately 28,500 square feet and it will operate as a flexible warehouse space. Additional work has been made to the site surrounding the two new units. The plans include extending the estate road, which will make it easily accessible for additional development in the future at Exeter Logistics Park. The new buildings will deliver significant economic benefits to the region and are expected to generate more growth in the future.

Management of the site is being responsibly monitored so that further developments will help reduce carbon footprint where possible and contribute to the local council’s target of becoming carbon neutral by 2040.
