Billington have started work on site at the new £14 million expansion project to Leeds College of Art.The scheme, which has been in development for over two years and is their largest capital investment to date, is the initial stage of the College’s strategy to become the first specialist arts university in the North of England.The original building has reached capacity and the additional building and purpose-built spaces will allow the college to expand and diversify the courses on offer.Working with Main Contractors ISG, Billington are erecting the steel frame structure which spans up to 5 stories and is connected to the existing Blenheim Walk campus.
Once complete (estimated summer 2018) the structure will cover approximately 65,000 sq ft and house a coffee shop, 230-seat auditorium, public exhibition gallery, as well as a variety of art, design and performance amenities.
