Women Of Steel Statue Unveiled! Billington Structures

On Friday 17th June 2016, Billington Structures was proud to attend the unveiling of the Women of Steel statue, a memorial to the thousands of women who were conscripted to work in factories and steel mills during World War One and World War Two.

Barnsley based Billington is one of the UK’s leading structural steel specialists and has been a long supporter of the Women of Steel charity, including sponsoring a classical concert held at the Crucible Theatre in 2014.

The Women of Steel charity raised over £160,000 for the stunning bronze statue that was unveiled on Friday as a permanent memorial to the Women of Steel in Barker’s Pool in the city centre. The statue was designed by sculptor Martin Jennings who worked closely with the charity to develop the design.

The statue is great reminder of the rich heritage that the steel industry has in the local area and, as one of the industry leaders, the Company feels it is important to work with local communities. Billington intends to continue supporting the Women of Steel charity as well as a variety of other local charities and initiatives.
