Billington Structures is proud to announce that we have been awarded the steel fabrication and erection contract for the Hallenbeagle Refuse Transfer Station (RTS) in Redruth, Cornwall by Kier Construction.
The Hallenbeagle waste facility development is designed to enhance Cornwall’s new household waste and recycling collection service. This initiative will introduce food waste recycling to local residents and businesses and is designed to significantly increase the county’s recycling rate. The development is being built in one phase as a collaborative effort between Kier and the main client SUEZ Recycling and Recover UK.
Once operational the facility will be capable of processing up to 140,000 tonnes of food waste annually. It will act as a processing hub for waste collected from homes and businesses across Cornwall.
Billington Structures is delighted to be involved with a forward-thinking sustainability project in the UK. The site at Redruth will feature a mix of 52m, 44m, and 42m span galvanised portal frames, divided into three distinct areas: the Baler, MRF (Materials Recycling Facility), and the RTS (Refuse Transfer Station). Concrete push walls, crucial to the structure, will be installed prior to the steelwork.
Jodi Bath, Project Manager at Billington Structures, is delighted to be involved in the project, “Being part of the Hallenbeagle Refuse Transfer Station project is an exciting opportunity for Billington Structures. This facility is not just about waste disposal, but also about contributing to a sustainable future for Cornwall, which aligns with our own ESG objectives. We are proud to play a role in a development that will significantly improve recycling capacity in the region.”
At Billington Structures we are committed to reducing the impact that our operations have on the environment and we are proud to be a carbon-neutral business. We have a duty of care towards tackling waste and the climate crisis, and the Hallenbeagle RTS project exemplifies this approach.
